Step stool or patient platform: see the difference

On a step stool, your patient takes a high step up to a fixed height. In the photos (a staged situation): the same room, the same patient and the same examination.

How the Simple Up works

Two buttons on the platform and an optional remote control. A beep and a green light tell you when your patient can step on or off.

  1. Patient stepping onto the lowered platform and holding both handles

    Step 1: Stepping on

Press the up button once. The platform moves to the 15.5 cm step-on position and then rests on its frame instead of on its wheels. You hear a beep and the green light comes on: your patient can step on.

  2. Patient standing on the raised platform in front of the wall bucky, holding the grab handles

Step 2: Raising to imaging height

Press and hold the up button. The platform rises to any height up to 85 cm and stops as soon as you let go. Your patient holds the grab handles with both hands; you stay with them and work upright.

  3. Patient stepping off the platform in the step-on position

Step 3: Lowering and stepping off

Press and hold the down button: the platform stops automatically in the step-on position. When the green light is on, your patient steps off. Wait until your patient has stepped off; only then press and hold the down button again to put the platform back on its wheels. The platform cannot detect whether anyone is standing on it: no one may stand on the platform while it is on its wheels.

From clinical practice

The Simple Up is a fantastic improvement for our department in orthopaedic imaging (…). Since we started using the Simple Up, steps and step stools that are too low are a thing of the past.

Nothing but winners. (…) And the radiographer no longer has to lift or bend over to provide support. In this case, it really is a win-win.
